Origins of Ray Lewis Squirrel Dance

Congrats to the Baltimore Ravens for winning the Super Bowl. It was a fantastic game. I am a fan of Ray Lewis and loves how he makes his entrance into the game. Yesterday I watched Ray Lewis dance for the last time at M&T Stadium. I couldn't help but wonder, why is his dance called 'The Squirrel Dance' and where did it come from.

In an interview Ray Lewis states “This guy in my hometown named Kirby Lee, he used to always do this dance, and the dance was called ‘The Squirrel,’” Lewis said “I told him, ‘I’m going to do that dance some day.’ He was like, ‘You’re not going to do it.’ I said, ‘I’m going to do it.’ Then one day, they introduced the defense, and I came out, and I just did it. When I did it, of course the crowd went crazy.” The rest is history.

Fitness Friday

My title page contents Fitness Friday- National Wear Red Day On this Fitness Friday I would like to bring awareness to heart disease in women.Today is National Wear Red Day.

Often times people consider heart disease as a man's problem, however women are seriously impacted by heart disease. Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. Women of all ages should be concerned about heart disease. All women can take steps to prevent it by practicing healthy lifestyle habits.

Heart disease is the leading cause of the death in the U.S. Over one quarter of all deaths are from heart disease. It is also a major cause of disability. The risk of heart disease increases as you age. You have a greater risk of heart disease if you are a man over age 45 or a woman over age 55. You also are at greater risk if you have a close family member who had heart disease at an early age.
Fortunately, there are many things you can do reduce your chances of getting heart disease. You should:
  • Know your blood pressure and keep it under control
  • Exercise regularly
  • Don't smoke
  • Get tested for diabetes and if you have it, keep it under control
  • Know your cholesterol and triglyceride levels and keep them under control
  • Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables
  • Maintain a healthy weight
